Secondary Practicum


My experience in Secondary School...





In the month of October I started the last period of my practicum. I started this stage in the same school that I did my Kindergarten practicum. The school is called Castex, and it's situated in San Carlos de Bariloche.

As I previously published in Kinder's page, the school opened its doors in 1991, but secondary level opened its doors in 1999. Secondary school provides students with a degree in accountancy, and a certificate in computer applications, so each student has a computer to study. Secondary school has about 100 students so every teacher knows very well every student, and there is a nice atmosphere between students and teachers. I worked in this school since 2012, and I really enjoyed doing my practicum period here.
The group of students in which I did this period is composed by students from 4th and 5th year. In general my lesson plans were mainly based in the Communicative approach and the PPP method. As I previously explained during my past periods of the practicum I consider that it’s essential to use the language to communicate, and to use it in real life situations. That is why I decided to plan everything taking into account this approach. I also tried to plan the activities under the light of the Bloom’s Taxonomy to help me to sequence the activities from less to more demanding. There were many factors that I had into account while I was planning, such as activities’ purpose, procedures, timing, transitions and learning strategies too. I was a bit afraid since there is evidence that teenagers tend to be more difficult to motivate and manage. However, this group is very nice and the strategies that I used worked well.
